The Niagara River Lions (7-15) make the trip to London today to take on the London Lightning (18-4). The game marks the eighth and final time that these two teams will meet. The season series currently stands at 6-1 in the Bolts favor.
The River Lions were one of the few teams to notch a win against the Lightning, and did so in dramatic fashion, winning 107-106 in the season opener. It’s been all London since then, racking up six straight wins in their head-to-head matchups.
The River Lions have been led by NBLC veteran Kirk Williams Jr. The former Power and Express forward leads the team in both scoring and rebounds. Niagara will be debuting an new head coach in former Niagara College coach Keith Vassell. The change comes while the Lions are mired in a four game losing streak.
London has been hit with some adversity of their own, as they had their NBLC record 14 game win streak snapped in Wednesday’s showdown with Windsor, losing 114-93 to their Central Conference rivals.
It wasn’t all bad news for the Bolts though, as the game was also a return to action for both Kyle Johnson and Garrett Williamson. Johnson had been out since early February with an ankle injury, while Williamson hadn’t played since mid January with a hamstring injury.
